Galapagos Islands cruises visitor site - Alcedo volcano

Alcedo Volcano - It is north of Perry Isthmus and aside from Sierra Negra, it is the oldest and largest volcanoes on Isabela Island.

The large caldera 4 miles by 5 miles across has an otherworldly feel to it. There are several steaming Fumaroles the largest of which is known as "the Geyser".

Alcedo is home to approximately 4000 Galapagos tortoises who live in the wild and enjoying mud baths.

Unfortunately even though very few people have ever visited Alcedo, the camping in the area has caused extensive damage. The Galapagos Islands National Park Service has closed this area to tourists until further notice.
