Lonesome George, who is Galapagos Islands oldest, and most eligible bachelors has high hopes of leaving a seed for his species.
In an effort to not let his species go extinct scientist have brought two new female companions in hopes of producing a viable offspring. Lonesome George, is of the Geochelone abigdoni species, and is thought to be almost 100 years old. He is the oldest living species of his kind to reside in Santa Cruz Island at the Charles Darwin Station. The importance of these two female tortoises is that genetic studies have shown that they are from the Geochelone hoodensis species which would be more compatible with Lonesome George. Keep your fingers crossed for a Lonesome George Jr!!!
